2010

Dr. Abdul K. Abbas, UCSF was chief guest and key note speaker at the 28th Annual banquet of ASIOA held at Anaheim, CA. Dr. Abbas delivered Dr. Krishna C. Agrawal memorial oration. Mario Toppo Distinguished Scientist award was given to Dr. Chinnaswamy Jagannath, Univ. of Texas, Houston.

The members observed a minute of silence in memory of Dr. Krishna Agrawal who died suddenly in recent flooding at New Orleans, LA. Dr. Avadhesh Sharma and Dr. Prasad Dhulipala were installed as New President and Secretary of ASIOA during the banquet. Dr.Avadhesh Sharma invited all members to attend the 4th National Meeting of ASIOA to be held at Suwanee, Georgia in January 2011.

2009

ASIOA 27th Annual banquet was held at New Orleans which was held at Tulane University Health Sciences center and attended by over 70 registrants. Dr. Krishna Agrawal introduced the keynote speaker Dr. R. William Caldwell, Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, Georgia. Dr. Angara Koneti Rao, Department of Medicine, Temple University received the Mario Toppo Distinguished Scientific Award.

Dr. Parimal Chowdhury former president, ASIOA was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award of ASIOA.

2009

ASIOA conducted its 3rd National meeting at Univ. of North Texas, Denton, Dr. Ulhas Niak served as President of the organizing committee. Dr. Avadhesh Sharma served as Vice president . Dr. Pudur Jagadeeswaran and Dr. Prasad Dhulipala served as Local Organizing secretary and Secretary respectively. Padmasri Dr, Sant Virmani presented key note address.

About 65 scientists from different parts of country attended and participated in the deliberations and several awards were presented to young scientists for best posters and presentations.

ASIOA 26th Annual banquet was held at Lions Club, San Diego, CA. B.S. Prakash, India’s Consul General at San Francisco, CA came as chief guest presented various award. Dr. Ulhas Naik, University of Delaware received Mario Toppo Distinguished Scientist award. Dr. Vijay K. Kuchroo, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard University, Boston delivered key note address. The audience observed a minute of silence in memory of Dr. Sam Bhathena, former President, ASIOA.

2007

ASIOA reached a big milestone and celebrated Silver Jubilee in its 25th Annual Banquet organized at Westin Hotel, Washington DC. Ronen Sen., Ambassador, Embassy of India was the chief guest and Dr. Neil Granger, Former President of American Physiological Society was the key note speaker. Dr. Murali Pagala and Dr.Ghansham Pandey served as Silver Jubilee committee and banquet committee chairman respectively.

ASIOA Distinguished service award was given to Dr. Pudur Jagadeeswaran, past president ASIOA and and Mario Toppo Distinguished Scientist award to Dr. Satya Prasad Kunapuli, Temple University, Philadelphia.

Dr. Girish N. Vyas, UCSF was chief guest and key note speaker at the 24th Annual banquet of ASIOA held at San Francisco, CA. Dr. Vyas delivered a lecture on Progress on the HIV-AIDS vaccine.

ASIOA Distinguished service award and Mario Toppo Distinguished Scientist award was given to Dr. Sarfraz Ahmad, past secretary, ASIOA and Dr. Pradman Qasba, Chief of Structural Glycobiology, NCI, Frederick, MD. Dr. Parimal Chowdhry and Dr. Kothappa Chetty were installed as New President and Secretary of ASIOA during the banquet.

2005

ASIOA organized its 23rd Annual banquet at San Diego, CA with Dr. Ajit Varki, Cellular and Mol. Medicine, Univ. California as Chief Guest. The association established Jr. Scientist award, with funds generated by Washington DC chapter in memory of Dr. Rayudu Gopala Krishna.

ASIOA Distinguished service award was presented to Dr. Gabriel Fernandes, Past President, ASIOA and Mario Toppo Distinguished Scientist award was given to Dr. Amar J.S. Klar, NCI, Bethesda, MD.

ASIOA conducted its First National meeting at Univ. Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio. Dr. Pudur Jagadeeswaran served as President of the organizing committee. About 75 scientists from different parts of country attended and participated in the deliberations.

Dr. Sankar Adhya, Chief of Molecular Biology, NCI delivered Key note address at the 22nd Annual banquet of the ASIOA held at Washington DC on the sidelines of FASEB meeting. Dr. Kamal Dwivedi, Counselor Science and Technology, Indian Embassy, Washington DC and Dr. Obaid Siddiqi, Fellow of National Academy of Sciences (USA) Chief guests were honored at the banquet.

ASIOA Distinguished service award was presented to Dr. Mohd. Sayeed, Past President, ASIOA and Mario Toppo Distinguished Scientist award was given to Dr, Mukund Modak,UMDNJ, Newark, NJ. ASIOA also awarded 5 awards to junior scientists in various categories.

Dr. Satu Somani (to honor ASIOA past president) and Dr., Reddy Labs (to a Jr. Scientist in Molecular Biology) were established at 21st Annual meeting of ASIOA held at San Diego, CA. Dr Somani inaugural award was presented to Dr. Prashant Shah of Maimonides Medical Center, New York and Dr. Reddy Lab’s award was presented to Dr.Salman Muzammil, Johns Hopkins, Baltimore.

ASIOA Distinguished service award was presented to Dr. Sam Bathena, Past President, ASIOA and Mario Toppo Distinguished Scientist award was given to Jaweed Fareed, Loyola Univ., Chicago. Dr. Robert Clark, Univ. Texas Health Sci. Ctr, San Antonio, TX, Chief Guest was honored at the banquet.

2002

20th Annual banquet was held during Experimental Biology meeting at New Orleans, LA. Prof. Max D. Cooper, Dept. of Medicine, HHMI, Univ. Alabama and also Member of prestigious National Academy of Sciences, USA was the chief guest.

ASIOA Distinguished Service Award and Mario Toppo Distinguished Scientist awards were presented to Dr. Kottarppat Dileepan, Univ. Kansas Med.Ctr and Dr. Pudur Jagadeeswaran, Univ. Texas Health Sci. Ctr, San Antonio respectively.
